Engaging with the Community: Groundwater Awareness Program at the Nallur Festival: Reflection of Volunteer Experience

I had an incredible experience volunteering with Water Professionals at the Nallur Festival in Jaffna, Northern Province.  As part of the Groundwater Awareness Program, organized by the University of Jaffna’s WASPAR project in collaboration with local Water Agencies, I had the opportunity to engage with over 50 people, including school students and the public.  Through interactive demonstrations and a quiz competition, we highlighted the importance of groundwater conservation and its relevance to the community. The Nallur Festival, one of the most celebrated events in the region, attracts thousands of visitors annually, offering a unique platform to raise awareness on crucial issues like water conservation.  The festival not only fosters religious and cultural unity but also significantly boosts the local economy, with businesses thriving on the influx of visitors. Being part of this initiative during such a pivotal event was both rewarding and enlightening. For more deta...

How to Overcome Grief

Disclaimer: This is just an experience shared by me and my friends. I hope that by sharing our experiences, we can offer a little hope to someone who needs it. Here, I’ve listed five basic tips to help you work on yourself during the initial stages of overcoming grief. How to Overcome Grief 1. Accept the Reality It’s really, really hard, but accepting reality is necessary to move forward. If you don’t accept it, you can’t heal. Give yourself time to realize and accept the truth — it doesn’t happen overnight. 2. Find a Non-Judgmental Network We all need people to share our feelings and experiences with. It’s important to have a supportive, non-judgmental group of friends. If you can talk to 3–4 friends, you’re lucky! Having more people to lean on helps balance things out when some are busy, which can prevent negative feelings from building up. 3. Give Yourself Time to Find Peace Healing takes time, so be patient with yourself. You might feel fine one day and then get triggered une...

My Journey with Uki

In November 2020, I applied for the Yarl IT Hub – Uki Full Stack Web Development course. For someone like me, who was not in a position to invest a significant amount of money in pursuing another program, Uki presented itself as an incredible opportunity. Some of my friends had completed the same Uki Full Stack Web Development course the previous year and were now working in leading companies. It was their encouragement that motivated me to apply.  I was fortunate to receive a full scholarship and began the 5-month online course in December 2020. Through this intensive program, we gained substantial knowledge in technical concepts, software development, and essential personal development skills within a short time frame. In today’s socio-economic context, along with food, clothing, and shelter, education and employment that align with one’s skills and aspirations have become fundamental needs. For those with determination and a passion for excelling in the field of informatio...

LinkedIn has evolved into a global marketing platform.

When I started using LinkedIn five years ago, it focused on professional discussions and career opportunities. Over time, it has transformed into a powerful networking hub, where jobs are offered, recruited, and personal branding is established. Now, LinkedIn resembles other social media platforms with features like short videos, small group conversations with like-minded individuals, and a vast marketing space. As it changes rapidly, it might become challenging to maintain LinkedIn as a strictly professional space, with the rise of non-professional content like comedy videos and casual interactions. #LinkedInEvolution #ProfessionalNetworking
